Why use turn-it-in.com?
This year at San Juan Hills High School, students will be required to submit all essays and major written assignments to turnitin.com. Most students registered for turnitin.com in their English classes during the first two weeks of school; however, turnitin.com will be used by students in several curricular areas, not just in English classes. The purpose of turnitin.com is to prevent plagiarism. When students submit papers to turnitin.com, their papers are searched for wording that is used on the internet and in other student papers. An originality report is issued to every paper that is submitted to the web-based service. Each student must staple his or her receipt from turnitin.com to the paper she/he is turning in to his/her teacher; a teacher will not accept a written assignment that does not have a turnin.com receipt if she/he has required a turnitin.com submission for that assignment. Teachers are also able to view student submissions to turnitin.com online. Again, the purpose of using turnitin.com is to verify that a student’s work is truly original work.
