It was a record day for the Girls track and field team on many levels. The 4x100 Meter Relay of Sarah Kelly, Maddie Vansell, Olivia Lowe, and Allie Kennamore beat their own school record with a new time of 50.42. Kylee Vandenberg displayed a strong effort in both the discus and shot put with marks near her best despite still healing off a recent arm injury. She continued this effort on the track and ran a personal best in the 800 Meter of 2:19.17 and capped her day off as the third leg of the 4x400 Meter Relay team. On the field, Sophomores Abby Conklin and Chloe Widdowson gave it their best in the jumps. Abby Conklin jumped 16’4” in the Long Jump and Chloe Widdowson achieved 32’1.5” in the Triple Jump. Senior Katie Ott ran 2:21.34 in the 800 Meter and then took care of the second leg of the 4x400 Meter Relay.
In order to qualify for the next round of CIF, the girls had to finish in the top nine of their event for all of Division III. Junior Lexi Shaw was the first to achieve such after running a lifetime best in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.55. Next up was Senior Chelsea Kruthers, winning her heat in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:14.49. Lexi Shaw returned with another outstanding performance in the 300 Meter Hurdles, winning her heat with a time of 45.13. At the end of the day, Katie Ott and Kylee Vandenberg joined Lexi Shaw and Chelsea Kruthers for a big win in their heat of the 4x400 Meter Relay giving them the green light for CIF Division Championships on Saturday, May 19th.
